Blog Tour Review - Black Crow Best New Horror

Blog Tour Review - Black Crow Best New Horror There's always been something about the horror story that I've felt really suits the short story format. I think it's because there's no slow build up and no comforting resolution, as a reader you're just dropped straight into the scary situation and you're often left without answers. The ghosts aren't exorcised, the demons aren't revealed to simply be the grounds keeper in a rubber mask, and the horror is left lingering in your mind. I grew up reading horror short story collections by Stephen King, Edgar Allen Poe and HP Lovecraft but it's been a while since I read any new horror collections so I was very excited to be asked to read and review one of the short stories in the Black Crow Best New Horror Anthology. For anyone unfamiliar with Black Crow, they've been doing book marketing and PR for ages now and are responsible for arranging many of the blog tours I've been doing over the last few ye...

The Eleventh Day of Blogmas - Bookish Naughty List Tag

Hiya,
This is a day late coming to you. My internet connection has been playing up badly. So just pretend it's still the eleventh day of Blogmas until I get back on track.

I was tagged in this book tag by Jenn so I'm going to have to give it  go! So I need to tick all of these naughty (bookish) things I've done, to see if I am on the naughty or nice list this year.

Received an ARC and not reviewed it - I've only ever received 3 ARCs, but I've only actually read two of them. I reviewed The Fandom. Sky Song I finished just today, and I will absolutely review it, but I did get a copy of Orphan Monster Spy in a goody bag and I haven't even looked at it.

Have less than 60% feedback rating on Netgalley - I've not registered on Netgalley so I'm going to pass on that one.

Rated a book on goodreads and promised a full review was to come on your blog (and never did) - No, I haven't done this yet, though I'm sure I will.

Folded down the page of a book - Definitely not!

Accidentially spilled on a book - I'm always really careful with my books, so no. Well, there is my bird guide, but I'm not sure being taken up a mountain in a blizzard and getting soaked through really counts as accidental spillage, does it? It has its own dry-bag now to protect what's left of it.

DNF a book this year - I've finished every book I started. I honestly can't remember the last book I didn't finish.

Bought a book purely because it was pretty with no intention of reading it - Well, there is that special collectors edition of A Darker Shade of Magic, the signed one. I've got no intention of reading that, when I've got the paperback one sitting on the shelf.

Read whilst you were meant to be doing something else (like homework) - No, happily my time is pretty much my own, and if I choose to spend all day reading then I'm clearly not meant to be doing anything else. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Skim read a book - Erotica doesn't count, does it?

Completely missed your Goodreads goal - Never set one.

Borrowed a book and not returned it - I'm very careful about my bookshelves. Nothing goes onto the shelf if it's not my book, so anything I borrow sits around and gets in the way until I return it.

Broke a book buying ban - Okay, so I said that I wasn't going to buy any more books for myself until I'd finished all my Christmas shopping. But how was I to know that Holly Bourne was coming to Newcastle for a book launch party? It would have just been rude to not buy her book and get it signed.

Started a review, left it for ages then forgot what the book was about - No, but give it time.

Wrote in a book you were reading - What am I? The half-blood prince? Who would do such a thing?

Finished a book and not added it to your Goodreads - Yeah, I'm just getting used to Goodreads and I'm trying, but it's a hard habit to get into.

So that's just four out of fifteen, and a few extenuating circumstances that should work in my favour I think. Hopefully Santa will agree and I'll get some books in my stocking!

Thanks to Jenn, for this fun tag. I'm going to tag the Northern Book Bloggers.
