 Blog Tour Review - The House on Blood Street by Josh Hanson Jack and Avery’s new home on Calliope Street is a fixer-upper’s dream.  The lurid collage of pornographic clippings on the basement wall seems  like a quirky (and campy) feature. But once the  house awakens, what seemed harmless becomes as horrifying as the blood  seeping from the carpet. The house is alive. It is intelligent. And it  demands homage. The House on Blood Street is a very weird and pretty darned creepy horror story. It is beautifully written. Throughout, the language, the imagery and the sense of tension and threat are all exquisite. The presentation is stunning too, a glorious, shiny hardback with lovely sprayed edges, everything about it evoking the horror movies it riffs off of. There's a poetry to the language, and it is full of references to poets, myths and songs, that give it a depth and power. I love the characters too. Blog Tour - Grace-Ella: Witch Camp by Sharon Marie Jones


Good morning,

Today I am joining in the blog tour for an absolutely charming new book, Grace-Ella: Witch Camp by Sharon Marie Jones.

This is the second Grace-Ella story, though it's the first I've read. Grace-Ella is a young girl who's found out that she's actually a witch, and in this story she goes off to witch camp to try and earn her Spells for Beginners certificate.

At camp she makes new friends, learns new magic and gets into all sorts of bother. The story has lovely messages there about the importance of helping people, supporting each other, and about self belief and confidence too.

It's lower middle grade, suitable for young readers, with lovely illustrations by Adrianna J Puglisi throughout.


As part of the blog tour, I'm really pleased to be able to bring you this extract from the book. On her first night at camp Grace-Ella is having trouble sleeping. Settling down with her copy of the Book of Rules, she finds the following story to read.
