Blog Tour Review - The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune

Blog Tour Review - The Bones Beneath My Skin by TJ Klune In the spring of 1995, Nate Cartwright has lost everything: his parents are dead, his older brother wants nothing to do with him, and he's been fired from his job as a journalist in Washington DC. With nothing left to lose, he returns to his family's summer cabin outside the small mountain town of Roseland, Oregon to try and find some sense of direction. The cabin should be empty. It's not. Inside is a man named Alex. And with him is an extraordinary little girl who calls herself Artemis Darth Vader. Artemis, who isn't exactly as she appears. Soon it becomes clear that Nate must make a choice: let himself drown in the memories of his past, or fight for a future he never thought possible. Because the girl is special. And forces are descending upon them who want nothing more than to control her. The Bones Beneath My Skin is a very hard book to talk about without spoilers. A very big part of it is the mystery elemen...

Kelly from This Northern Gal takes the Inside Out Challenge

Hello. Today I have another Inside Out challenge for you. Today I'm very pleased to bring you Kelly from This Northern Gal, a lifestyle blogger and a fellow member of the #NorthernBookBloggers. She also included some lovely pictures with her challenge submission!

First, please introduce yourself, including any blog addresses or
twitter handles you like.

Hello! I’m Kelly from www.thisnortherngal.co.uk. I do my best to make my corner of the internet a positive place so on my old blog you’ll find reviews and recommendations galore. It’s technically a lifestyle blog, which means that I can write about all the things that I love -books, food and cruelty free beauty to name but a few!

Can you tell me about a book you have read that made you feel joy?

There are plenty of books that I could say for these but I think I’m going to go for Ice Cream for Breakfast. There is just something so liberating and welcoming about the way Laura Jane WIlliams writes that never fails to give me joy. I come away from her work feeling like I’ve just spent a few hours putting the world to rights with an old
friend. Ice Cream for Breakfast is all about taking a step back and finding happiness even when it is hard to see. If you feel like you’re in a bit of a rut, it is well worth a read.

What about a book that filled you with sadness?

I distinctly remember crying my eyes out at Marley and Me by John Grogan. I could barely read the last hundred pages or so because there were so many tears!

Have you read a book that made you feel angry?
Nasty Woman, a collection from 404 Ink, made me angry and happy all at once. It was both uplifting to hear stories from so many women and infuriating to hear about all the problems that they still face, often on a daily basis. That anger is only intensified when I think about just how many people face the same or similar injustices around the world.

Has a book ever disgusted you?

This is tricky! I’ve read some really grim texts in my time, including some questionable classical sources and early Gothic texts. At this point, it takes a lot to shock and disgust me. If pushed, I would have to say some of the short stories in The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter were really difficult to read.

Can you tell me about a book that made you afraid?

I read Bird Box by Josh Malerman years ago and I’m still terrified of it! More recently, I was super scared the entire time I read The Three and Day Four (both by Sarah Lotz). If you want to experience some fear, read them!

And finally, can you tell me a little bit about a book that you know inside out?

I have a few choices for this actually: Dracula by Bram Stoker, Wuthering Heights by Emily Bronte and The Penelopiad by Margaret Atwood. I did some pretty hefty research work on them during my degree (with a few others) so I now feel pretty confident in my knowledge of them. In particular, Dracula and Wuthering Heights probably occupy a little bit too much of my brain...

Thanks for joining me Kelly, we love a bit of Gothic literature here in the BookWormHole!
