He lives in a rundown trailer at the edge of the woods, where he keeps Hannah’s room in pristine condition and tries to make it through one day at a time. Blog Tour Review - Dark Eyes: White Lies by M.R. Noble

Blog Tour Review - Dark Eyes: White Lies by M.R. Noble

Good evening. Today I'm on another The Write Reads blog tour, reviewing the second book in the Dark Eyes series by M.R. Noble, Dark Eyes: White Lies.

You can find my review of book one here.

Blackmailed into espionage, Karo must lie to one man while she fights her cravings for another. As spy partners, Karo is forced to work with Andre, the vampire she swore to never trust again. The accidental vampiric bond they have threatens to bend her into submission. But is her will actually weak, or does she want an excuse to give in?

Roman’s patience teeters on Karo’s deception. Bitter, desperate, and vengeful, Karo dutifully completes her missions while withholding data from her uncle Loukin’s operation. She swore to get out from under his thumb, even if she has to break a few hands. Each assignment brings her closer to uncovering his goal, and using it against him, but she also draws closer to new foes. And they all want the same thing—Karo’s secrets

I really like this sexy, dark cover. It suits the book a lot.

Wow! This one is dark and sexy. Everything feels like it's ramped up from the first book. Karolina is no longer on a voyage of discovery across, but much more comfortable with her powers. Though there's still a lot for her to learn about her heritage and the world she inhabits.

The story starts off focusing on Karolina's new spying missions, with some very interesting, and entertaining, attempts at espionage of various kinds. It doesn't always go particularly to plan. Things then open up further as Karo and Andre discover some secrets in the underworlds, and start pulling at threads until they unravel.

I really enjoyed learning more about the supernatural forces vying for control in this world, and how they interact with each other. Another highlight was watching Karolina learn more about her roots, and the relationship with the indigenous peoples of the Canadian regions, there's clearly been a lot of world building that has gone into this series and it's cool watching it unfold.

But there are other, more personal relationships for Karolina to figure out too. In the first book, there were two men vying for her attentions. In this one, it all gets a lot more serious with both of them! Karo really needs to sort out her relationships with Roman and Andre, and without giving any spoilers, it gets intense, it gets dark, and it gets steamy, several times, very steamy! This is not just a kissing-book, it's a fucking-book and it's also a dealing-with-really-bad-relationships-book and whoever you were shipping her with in book one, book two might either totally change your mind or show you why you were so, so right. There's also her relationship with Ina, her new roommate, which is just totally wholesome and lovely.

At times the action becomes a little too frenetic, and it can be hard to follow as new players drop in to fights and people throw all sorts of spells around, but generally it is very readable and worth sticking with during those action-packed sequences. The unfolding mystery is enticing, and I'm still really looking forward to seeing where the series goes next.

A dark, sexy, supernatural spy thriller full of twists and shocks!
